Rio Ave secured their spot in Liga BPI, winning the second leg playoff match against Gil Vicente 2-0 in Barcelos. The decisive match was wide open after the 1-1 draw in Vila do Conde, but the stronger team in Liga BPI was evident from the start, making it no surprise when Tânia Mateus scored (13’), after Ana Assucena had hit the bar twice. The lack of arguments from the Gil Vicente team forced a more direct game, and their best chance was a shot from Anna Braendstrup, well defended by Cassie Coster. In the second half, the trend continued, and Rio Ave eventually increased their lead, again by Tânia Mateus (50’), leaving the team very close to their goal, which would eventually be confirmed until the end, to the joy of the players and the many fans who traveled from Vila do Conde. Gil Vicente, on the other hand, sees their promotion to Liga BPI delayed.
